First and Last Name: Mark Morton

Stage name: Dr. Futurity

Email: mrmorton@aol.com

Style: Dark ambient with a Detroit beat, soundscapes. Live, created and improvised on hardware!

Goals: Personal and social evolution "Through Music to the Self". Brain Change.

X-cel: The times I have been there it has been great although the potential is still largely untapped. One of the few places that a mid-Michigan person can come to for alternate types of electronic music.

My musical future: will include more involvement with my instruments, more deep ambient exploration of consciousness and brain change through music, art , hopefully multi-media shows and tribal rhythm.

The future of music: in general holds a way for alternatives to the 'tyranny " of the marketplace to develop as musicians and others form alliances to present "other " music for those who are not satisifed being fed the tastes of a 13 year old from Iowa named Debbie by alienated large businesses ( apologies to Frank Zappa). Grassroots gatherings will hopefully allow creativity to flourish and people can begin to get what they need from music, not just what they think they want. With the internet, the small club scene, microlabels and home recording continuing to surge, the time to present an alternative is now. Cuurent declining "big label" sales do not just reflect copying, as the cassette was around for decades, but rather dissatisfaction with 400 acts that all sound similar and soulless. More and more people will allocate time to the alternatives, leaving the "big names" to languish.
