Now the plan is coming together. Work has been done on the most technical part of the trip the first day and the crossings.
So now we can consider what is the safest route for the paddlers experience levels in the group. Hugging the shoreline where bails and spills can be dealt with in relative safety. The northern most route on the map 8.68 miles is the route take both of the other two times we have been to Apostles. It gives you the ability to stop at Raspberry island to break before the larger crossing, which as seen in the next picture is pretty short.
Second to consider is the direct from the Point detour to the tip of oak island route 2. I would consider this the most dangerous route and it does not give you any escape route if there is any issues. Any issues with flips etc would have to be dealt with in the water. With water temps still at 38*F up there that's about 10 minutes in a wet suit to get back into the boat before your body is in real trouble. Third on the list is to consider a longer route, 9.72 miles approx. This route hugs shorelines and keeps crossings as short as possible. 1.4 and 1.8 miles. Heck I can scurry that in an hour.

Next task is for the gear to be checked and determine what other bags etc needs to be purchased. Other logistic issues is the distance from Traverse City area to where we want to camp the first night. This is about a 6 hours drive from there to Craig lake state park. Also on the list today sent email on camping at Sand Bay campground I have sent emails and called to see if this reservation can be made. Check out the on-line brochures looks like this would be a good spot for gear splay etc. We will be touring the west side of the area on Sunday and hoping for great weather to see the caves in Mawikwe Bay Heck just putting this post together I am thinking I am going to need may DV tapes . I can't wait to get this in HD.
I found this nice map of campsites here
