Thanks to my buddy Craig for finding a canoe for me on Craig's list. I checked several places and only found dented and leaking canoes for $150. I called on the one that Craig sent and was able to strike a deal for $400 for a 17' Grumman http://www.marathonboat.com/doubleend-17.asp.
I struggled with how I was to get it home as my roof rack was ripped off the truck back a few years ago. So monday night I pulled all of the parts for the roof rack that I could find out and got busy. In the end the aircraft door pieces went on one bar and that completed the front door mount. We used two pieces of canoe foam on the back of the gunnels and tied it down to the hitch. Went on the truck so easy it must have been meant to be.
I also knew that there was still some roof rack that was good on the back of the truck, so I found the expensive mounts "feet". I found two of them and didn't have time to make them work so I threw them in the truck. When I got home one was missing. It must have gone into the "pile of stuff". Going out to dinner I thought., I am going to turn the corner and the part is going to be lying in the road. Guess what? I found it on the corner of Grandell and Grand River. Another one of those "Crasher" moments of willing something to happen. "props" to Craig.
James and I went through the gear that he is going to need. I still have the red jacket and he can still fit into it. So that is one thing off of his list. I sent him home with my master check sheets on things that I bring and he said that he would have a list by Saturday/sunday. I'll be at the State Robotics Championship in A2 for the rest of the week.
